Climate Change… The most serious threat that humanity has ever faced. It threatens our conveniences and comfort, our current way of living, our security and, in the end, our mere existence as human species.
The issue is so big and profound that it is hard to wrap our mind around it.
It is hard to imagine that our current way of life can be disrupted so drastically if nothing is done in the next 10 years, as the UN warns us.
It is hard to comprehend that humans have so much power as to change the weather patterns and the health of the oceans.
Even if we do understand the dangers of our changing climate, it is hard to believe that anything can be done to reverse the harm done.
It is hard to imagine that the system that has been in place for over 100 years can be disrupted.
It is hard to believe that one person can make a difference.
So, we do nothing…. because we think…
that technology will fix things;
that somebodywith more knowledge, time, power, connections, etc. will solve the problem;
that by the time the planet breaks down, we will figure out how to migrate to Mars;
that whatever I do is not enough to make a difference;
or we try not to think about it at all…
Whatever the excuse might be…
I know I have been guilty of most of them at different points in my life…
“It all seems impossible until it is done” ~Nelson Mandela
The change CAN be done and the future where we don’t have to worry about climate change and the survival of future generations is possible. Our planet can be powered on 100% renewables. In fact, all the resources and technology are already there to make the switch. What we need is the collective will to make the change.
Young people are taking a lead in waking up the humanity to the issue because they see the truth: there is no other option. We, as society, will either adopt a new way of living on this planet or we will reap the dire consequences of our inaction.
Millions of people are heading to the streets to peacefully bring the attention of authorities to the issue of climate change and demand drastic action NOW. Initiated by a 16 year old activist Greta Thunberg. The Global Climate Strike is happening September 20, 2019.
Check if the city near you have active climate strike events. (most major cities do!)
